Fresh blueberries in the near future! We have a mature little patch, that provides for us nicely.
Even though I freeze them, can blueberry pie filling, and jam; there is just no comparison to eating them by the handful, fresh, plump, and warmed by the sun.
Martha Stewart has her favorite blueberry recipes in this month's magazine. I haven't tried any of them, but we have some old family favorites of our own.
Oatmeal Blueberry Muffins
1 c. oats (quick)
1 c. buttermilk in a bowl.
1/3 c. oil
1/2 c. brown sugar
1 egg
1 c. flour (unbleached)
1 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. baking soda
scant 1/2 tsp. salt
1-2 c. blueberries
Combine dry ingredients in a bowl.
Mix wet ingredients together in another bowl.
Stir dry and wet ingredients together.
Fold in blueberries.
Bake 20 minutes at 400 degrees F.
There were no fresh blueberries or even muffins here on the home front today. The little girlies had to settle for blueberry streusel bread from the store. They asked for seconds, so it must not have been too bad.

Mmmm. Hope you have enough to share...
In the old days these weren't mere blueberries though, remember? They were "power pills" to fuel our gymnastic endeavors!
Let's hope they haven't lost their "power" I could really use some of that energy, you girls always had! If I start doing cartwheels, though....well that could be ugly!
Yum! I must that recipe. We have a few blueberry plants but they are still really small. Love you!
I remember cool grass in the evening, blueberries and tumbling... oh to be a kid again...
